Re-Alignment

Sometimes I catch myself drifting back to a time when my “relationship with God grass” was greener. I remember being a young, 14 year old girl who was head over heals in love with Jesus. I would wake up with a smile on my face just thinking about the Lord and I would devour His word for hours as though my very life depended on it (and honestly, at that time in my life, it probably did). I would turn music up and the lights down and spend intimate time worshipping my God. My days were filled with thoughts of how to reach the world, starting with those right in front of me. I sought out people just to love on them and spent the majority of my time with my friends, talking about the deep things of God.

I often think back to this time: my steadfast commitment to honoring and glorifying God in ALL that I did, from cleaning the toilet to simply being a friend. My life circumstances are drastically different now. I’m still that girl inside but I’m now a woman, a wife…a mother of 4 children! My daily tasks sometimes can leave me completely depleted and wondering where the day went. Instead of waking with a smile on my face – I tend to wake with my “to do” list front and center. “Hit the floor running,” as my mom used to say.

I’m lucky to “vox” (it’s an app called voxer, it’s great, try it!) with my friends for a few minutes a day, much less have conversations about the deep things of God! Sometimes my prayer and worship time consists of the second by second, moment-by-moment abiding types of prayers. You know, the kind of prayer you say as your doing the dishes or praying for help while dealing with a difficult parenting moment? Or 10 minute spontaneous worship sessions in the car when you’re on your way to grocery shop.

It’s not that I love God any less – matter of fact, I know the depth of my need for him all the more NOW and am even MORE grateful for GRACE and the price that has been paid for my life. My passion is all the more burning for the advancement of the Kingdom of God here on earth. The reality is that my circumstances have changed and my relationship with God doesn’t look like what it used to and that makes me uncomfortable.   At times I find myself looking back and trying to align who I am with that version of me, but here I am, in completely different circumstances.

Today I was driving in the car and one of my favorite songs from when I was a teenager came on.   Switchfoot: Dare You to Move. That song still gets me, stirs my spirit, and drives me to Jesus and to action. As I listened, many things happened, one of which was a trip down memory lane and I found myself there again – comparing my current self to that 14 year old girl, feeling as though I am lacking. Thinking that, in some way, I’m not doing enough…not being enough…just simply, NOT ENOUGH.

God began to speak to me and I realized that I am desiring to align myself back to a point in my life that was attained through Jesus. It wasn’t attained by my actions or my will, but by an inner working that produced that place spiritually. What I truly longed for was not the actions of spending hours in the Word, it was that I had associated those hours in the Word with closeness and intimacy with God.

God began to remind me: “That’s not what I’ve asked you to do. The only place you are to align yourself is in me, through me. I am your true north. You have to align yourself in me, now, in these circumstances.”

Whew, hot tears welled up in my eyes as I drove. God is it for me guys. From the moment I first believed, I’ve never been able to look back because He changed me and left His mark on me. I will never be the same. I’m forever His. So now in these new circumstances I have to continue to focus on Him and align ALL of myself to Him.

Let me take a moment to explain what I mean by “align myself to Him” because it could easily be taken wrong. My spirit is already His. I’m not out of alignment with God in spirit – I’ve been made new and my spirit has been made right before God. (Ephesians 1:4, Romans 5:17) My flesh/my emotions and my mind do not always reflect what’s going on in my spirit though.

When I say I’ve got to align myself with Him – I’m speaking of aligning my flesh/emotions/mind with what is true of my spirit. My spirit has been redeemed and God says that I’m MORE than a conqueror but even better than that, 2 Corinthians 5:21 says:

“21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

We are the righteousness of God – that’s who we are in spirit and it’s our task, as Kingdom people, to align our flesh/emotions, by the renewing of our mind, to this truth.

I hope I didn’t lose you there. The point is this: don’t compare yourself to older versions of you. Don’t long for a different moment in time. Be present and let God work in and through you, as you align ALL of you with Him.

I love what Paul wrote in Phillipians 12:13-14:

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”

Paul was a man who truly lived through dire circumstances but yet he grasped a secret: I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

No matter what your circumstances are – God has called you to align your “everything” with Him. No “circumstance” is a game changer or a Word changer for that matter. God’s Word is true – no matter what the circumstances are. Align your flesh/emotions/thoughts with the truth of God’s Word, that right where you are, in spirit, YOU are WHOLE, LOVED, capable and CHOSEN.


E-Conference Speaker Introductions – Part 4 – Stephanie Blake

And I would like to give a warm welcome to our host (drum roll, please) – Stephanie Blake! I really can’t say enough good about Stephanie. She is a wife, mom, teacher, minister, counselor, project manager, researcher, entrepreneur, animal lover and encourager-extraordinaire! Hearing about what she gets done in a day makes me wonder if God somehow squeezed 36 hours into hers compared to my 24!

Everyone who meets Steph loves her instantly. Her relationship with Jesus shines through with a tenacity to impact the world for God. She is a rare jewel who understands the difficulties women, wives and moms face but turns them toward truth, gives hope and helps them to smile through the tears.

God has given Steph a passion for learning and teaching about relationships and mothering; Kingdom Families was birthed out of that vision. She challenges women and moms to see themselves and live as daughters of the King. I have grown tremendously through my friendship with Steph and I have never known someone who can speak God’s truth with such amazing love and grace, energizing me to love Him, my husband and children even more. I never knew that God intended women to live lives that were so rich and full of His life!

As you sit down to a podcast with Stephanie, the miles and walls disappear and she’s one of your best girlfriends. So grab a mug of coffee and allow God to encourage you through Steph, because we all need a girlfriend that shows us how to dream big, love better and be excited about the journey as we advance God’s Kingdom as moms.

First and foremost, I am a daughter of the King.  Secondly, I’m wife to a bearded hero (John Blake, Curry’s son), and mother of four extroverted blessings.  When I’m not loving on and/or homeschooling one of my blessings or working for JGLM I can be found cleaning up messes, carving candles, taking care of our pocket beagles and reading.

My passion for all things marriage and family sometimes is a bit overwhelming because, like you, I’m just not perfect.  I’ve learned so much over the years and read so many marriage/parenting books that I’ve lost count – and let me tell you, that’s a lot of information to process and compare yourself to!!!  What I’ve found is that you can have ALL the KNOWLEDGE in the world and not have the will to put it in to practice…and that will, that strength, comes from Jesus!

Walking out this beautiful and stretching journey we call motherhood is my passion and that passion leads me to want to connect and encourage moms all over the world with UNCOMPROMISING truth.  I envision bringing in great women of faith to collaborate in pouring into the hearts of moms all over the world – who are just like me, walking out this journey for the glory of God!  I thank you for being here and being a part of that vision!

E-Conference Speaker Introductions – Part 3 – Kathy Miiller

Introductions Part 3 – this one is a doozy for me…I get teary just starting this intro because this lady means sooo much to me. God brought her into my life because her last name was misspelled on an order through JGLM.  While I don’t normally do this area of work, I was helping out and I was the one who called Kathy to resolve the issue that day and I’m so very thankful I did!  Life hasn’t been the same since, in the best way.

Kathy has become one of my very best friends through prayer, late night document editing, giggles, recipes, girly chats, teamwork on world changing projects and KINGDOM chats!  I value this lady in my life so much because she is who she is – and who she is, is a reflection of Christ’s love and also His warrioristic character.  Her determination in prayer, potty training and work for the Kingdom has earned her the nickname “pit bull” and appropriately so. <3

Kathy’s love of truth and dedication to see it spread and be known is awe inspiring – and she does it while also baking cookies and talking about scrumptious snacks!  Her genius doesn’t stop at the kitchen though – she is a fellow techno geek and can blow you out of the water with her knowledge of software and what it takes to make things happen while utilizing technology.

She’s dedicated to her 5 beautiful children and adoring husband (who is, in my opinion, a genius in his own right as well) and does a great job at keeping her priorities in line.  I thank God for Kathy in my life and I’m so very blessed to call her friend and introduce you to her.  Here she is, warrior, potty trainer, pit bull, cookie maker but best of all, Jesus reflector Kathy Miiller…

Welcome back!  Continuing on with our introductions, I’m so VERY honored to introduce this mom to you – Kim Jones!  I’ve known Kim for years through various JGLM (John G. Lake Ministries – www.jglm.org) avenues.  Her southern charm, sharp whit, determination and steadfast commitment to advancing the Kingdom has always set her apart in my mind.  Through the years I’ve seen this woman consistently live all out for Jesus – each year she’s always pressing on!

One of my other favorite things about Kim is her son, TC.  This kid is such a blessing and has that same southern charm – you can see the evidence of Harold (Kim’s husband) and Kim’s relationship with Jesus all over this young man.  Kim is a great mother with lots of wisdom to impart and I’m so honored that she’s agreed to share with us.

My name is Kim Jones. There are just a few things that I would like you to know about me:

  • I am a follower of Jesus Christ.
  • I’m a wife and a stay-at-home mama.
  • Home schoolin’ and homesteadin’ keep me busy during most days.
  • I am passionate about equipping the saints to advance the kingdom of God.
  • I love playing tennis and admit that I’m somewhat competitive. (my son says I’m competitive in everything that I do!)

E-Conference Speaker Introductions – Part 1 – Kim and Darlene

Greetings Kingdom Moms!

With the Kingdom Moms E-Conference just a little over a week away, I’d like to take some time to introduce you to our wonderful speakers!  We’ll start with Kim and Darlene Unrau because…well, they’re my favorite couple!!!! (AND they submitted their pic and info first!)  Yes, it’s true…of all the couples I know, and I know and love a LOT – they are my favorite.

From the first time I met Kim and Darlene I knew that they were the “real deal.”  From the words coming out of their mouths to the smiles that exude joy on their faces – I just couldn’t get enough.  They’re the kind of couple that makes you want to pull up a chair and just soak up the love and fun tidbits that they spurt out like it’s nothing and BEG for them to adopt you into their family (ok, maybe that’s just me…) <3

While their personalities are wonderful and they have fun and exciting stories to tell – the qualifier here is JESUS.  These two people love Jesus and their life is lived to advance the Kingdom of God right where they are…everyday.  And THAT is what makes them the “real deal.”

Without further adieu, I’m honored to introduce you to our Kingdom Moms E-Conference Speakers, Kim and Darlene Unrau.

“Kim & Darlene Unrau have been married for over 27 years and have learned through this process to communicate, resolve conflict, prefer one another and laugh till it hurts. Matthew, Joel and Jordan are their incredible sons: Matthew is pursuing kingdom business, Joel is completing his teaching degree and Jordan beat us all to heaven. Their journey is blogged in www.jordanshealing.blogspot.com.

Their work history includes pastoring for 25 years in many different contexts across Canada – large and small churches as well as church planting. Kim and Darlene desire to partner with Father God to see replicating authentic Kingdom communities that look and act like Jesus through discipleship and risky faith – doing the works of Christ. They love to teach and preach, cast out demons, heal the sick and lead people to Jesus.

Kim loves to laugh, sail and hunt. Darlene loves the laughing and sailing but saves her hunting for outlet malls.  While Kim’s degree is in theology and Darlene’s is in education with a minor in counselling, Kim has ended up the consummate counsellor, turning his years of experience into a tent-making business, Inspired Life Training – providing family, individual, couple and executive coaching and training in person or through Skype.

True To You is an abstinence-based program, developed by Darlene, through the local pregnancy care centre, where she has had incredible opportunities to give presentations to students from grades 7 – college age in schools and organizations both public and private.  The training of youth influencers, including parents, is her passion since they are the ones on the front lines. They are the ones having a 1000 little conversations instead of the one “big talk” about healthy relationships and healthy sexuality as Father God intended.”

Welcome to Kingdom Moms!

No matter who you are or where you’re located in the world – the job of mother is never ending.  Whether it’s chores, discipline, mentoring or just making ends meet – motherhood takes all you’ve got!  With everything in this world that can pull on us and tug us too and fro, we have to draw a line in the sand and choose to be intentional parents when our world and culture teaches us to let everything else take precedence.

The battle for the hearts, mind and spirit of our children is one of the most important battles we will fight.  We must ready ourselves and be diligent to know our enemy’s tactics and have a plan for battle.  Kingdom Moms is dedicated to equipping and encouraging moms in their God-given role of mother through gathering like-minded Kingdom Moms who can pour into one another.
